The bipedal gait characteristics of gibbons and bonobos are presented in this research, which not only contributes to our understanding of the locomotor system of gibbons and bonobos but also enhances our understanding of the acquisition of a habitual bipedal gait in hominins. The author looks at the functional morphology of the foot and ankle complex, the dynamic foot function during terrestrial locomotion and the characteristics of bipedal locomotion using the footscan® system.
