Intrinsic risk factors for sports injuries to the lower leg and ankle
by Tine Willems
This book provides a better insight in the intrinsic risk factors for sports injuries of the lower leg and ankle. The magnitude of the problem is identified and described in terms of incidence and severity of sports injuries, the risk factors and injury mechanisms that play a part in the occurrence of sports injuries are identified. Measures are introduced that are likely to reduce the future risk and/or severity of sport injuries. 400 physical education students were examined on potential intrinsic risk factors during a 1-3 year period. Plantar pressure data is collected and analyzed using a footscan® system resulting in standardized pressure profiles to predict low risk injuries.
