Despite improvements in housing design, farm- and nutrition-management the prevalence of claw disorders remained high during the last decennium for animals housed on concrete floors. This book analyses the mechanical interaction between the claws and dairy cattle and the floor, using the footscan® system, to determine, first, whether the claw is subjected to mechanical overloading that might contribute in the development of lameness and, second, what mechanical floor properties are needed to ensure unrestrained locomotion.
