A smart shoe for athletes and diabetics
CMST, a laboratory of imec at UGent, and Holst Center, founded by imec and TNO, work together with the Belgian company RSscan on an intelligent shoe sole. The sole has about 900 sensors and measures the pressure distribution while you walk or run. This is interesting for top athletes, people in rehabilitation, and for diabetic patients. Unique to this new development is the large number of sensors in the sole, the high measuring frequency, and the fact that the electronics are extremely thin and pliable. RSscan wants to put the product on the market by 2020 at the latest.
